That’s definitely our jam, and we know it must be yours too. So pizza lovers: unite! In this article you’ll find out how to make your own pizza. Whether you want it to be completely homemade or you want to go the easy route; we’re sure you’ll find your perfect method of pizza making in this article.

The easy method

Of course the easiest way to make your own pizza is to buy your preferred toppings, a jar of tomato sauce and a store-bought pizza crust. All you need to do is follow the instructions, really. If you’re looking for a better tasting pizza, make your dough and sauce yourself.

Making your own dough

If you want to go full artisan pizza, be our guest. Making your own dough and sauce can taste a lot better than store-bought ingredients. For thin crust pizza you’re going to need a couple things first;

  • ¾ Cups of water (this water needs to be lukewarm.)
  • 1 Teaspoon of yeast. This yeast can be active-dry or instant, it’s up to you.
  • 2 Cups of flour. We prefer unbleached all-purpose flour, but any kind of all-purpose flour will do.
  • 1 ½ Teaspoons of salt. This is very important! It might seem like a lot, but it’s really not that bad.

Once you’ve gathered all of these ingredients, it’s time to start the actual work. Take your water and yeast, and put them in a bowl. Mix them together so that the yeast is fully dissolved. Don’t worry if it looks gross: it’s supposed to look gross. Next, you add your dry ingredients (the flour and salt.) Mix all of the ingredients together until you are left with something that vaguely resembles dough. Take your dough to a clean work surface. This could be a cutting board or just a plain wiped down kitchen counter surface. Put some flour down, and put your dough down. Now you have to knead it. Get all of that excess flour into the ball of dough. Make it so that it’s smooth and elastic. It should feel a little wet and sticky. If it’s too sticky, add more flour. When you’re done doing this, you should let the dough rise in the fridge for at least an hour and a half. You’ve just made your own pizza dough! When you’re ready to make a pizza, just pull it out and roll it out into a pizza shape. Then add your toppings.

Making your own sauce

You might want some homemade sauce to go with that homemade dough. It’d kind of defeat the purpose to make your own dough, but then add store-bought sauce to it. Do it yourself tomato sauce for pizzas are better tasting than store-bought, anyway. Here’s how you make your delicious sauce; you’re going to need:

  • A little bit of olive oil
  • 2 Or 3 large garlic cloves. Adjust this if you’re not a fan of garlic.
  • 1 teaspoon of dried or fresh oregano. Of course our preference goes out to fresh, but either one is fine. If you’re using fresh oregano, add it at the end of the cooking process.
  • 2 Cans of diced tomatoes. If you’re using fresh tomatoes, use two pounds.
  • A little bit of sugar or honey.
  • Some red pepper flakes if you’re looking for a hint of heat in your sauce
  • Half a teaspoon of salt
  • Pepper

Add your garlic first. If you’re using dried oregano, add it in with the garlic. Don’t use your fresh oregano until at the end of the process. When the garlic is cooked, add the tomatoes and the rest of your ingredients. Turn the heat up to a boil, then turn it down until it is simmering nicely. Let it simmer for 90 minutes. When you’re done, allow the sauce to cool before using it on your pizza dough.

Picking your ingredients

Ingredient wise, you’re pretty much set if you just pick things that you like. We’re personally a big fan of vegetables. Tomatoes, mushrooms, bell pepper… yes please! Toppings on your pizza can be literally anything that you like. Different kinds of cheeses, vegetables and meats… yum. Our mouths are watering as we speak. It’s all up to you!

Cook your meats

If you’re a meat lover, make sure that you cook your meat before you put it on the pizza. Ground beef is a nice topping if you mix it with some seasoning mix, but you have to cook it in a skillet until it has browned. If you don’t do this, your pizza will drown. We’re not joking; ground beef has a lot of water and fat that needs to come out. That’s why you cook it beforehand! The same goes with any kind of pork, beef, or chicken that you want on your pizza. Just cook it until it’s at least mostly cooked. The oven will do the rest of the work for you. Don’t overdo it with the ingredients though; a heavy pizza will not cook as evenly. You might end up with dough that’s not cooked in the middle or entirely undercooked.
