Bruges, Belgium

Underrated places in Europe

Bruges, BelgiumIn this article we will pay a visit to some of the most beautiful places of Europe, that don’t get the credit they deserve. We will tell you what those places have to offer and show you, things that you simply have to see!

Bruges, Belgium.

Bruges is an amazing city in Belgium. Bruges is famous for its medieval center. The complete historic center of Bruges is on the World Heritage Site of Unesco. The center is full of buildings and houses that were built 1000 years ago! Because the buildings were all restored in a way that kept their spirit alive, you will feel like you were born in the year 1200 when walking through Bruges.

If you are in Bruges, you simply have to visit the Chocolate Museum. Belgium is of course well known for its chocolate. In this Museum, you will see the
entire history of the Belgium chocolate. If you leave this place without a giant crave for chocolate, you are a strong person!

Cinque Terre, Italy.

One of the most amazing things I have ever seen in my life are the 5 small villages on the coast of Italy, called Cinque Terre. These villages are so amazing but they are very hard to reach by car. The best way to visit them is by taking a boat from La Spezia, which is a city near the 5 villages. The villages have the following names:

  • Monterosso al Mare.
  • Vernazza.
  • Corniglia.
  • Manarola.
  • Riomaggiore.

There are some boat tours where you can hop on a boat in La Spezia, and sail from village to village, and you can take of wherever you want. This way, you can look at all 5 of the villages, and stay wherever you want to stay. All of the villages are fairly small, the biggest one, Monterosso, has a population of almost 1500 people.

All of the 5 villages have enough to offer for you to enjoy a full day. Of course, there are many places where you can stroll through the rocks and look at the amazing view. It is possible to walk from village to village! Fortunately, there are some different ways to rest from the walking. The beaches are simply beautiful. You can enjoy a nice swim in the sea. There are many restaurants and cafes where you can drink a nice glass of wine and have a nice meal. Shortly, there is a lot to do in all of the Cinque Terre’s.

Groningen, The Netherlands.

Groningen is an amazing place to visit if you are in The Netherlands. With a population of approximately 200,000 people, it is the 5th largest city in The Netherlands. Given the fact that it is a student city, you can guess for yourself that it is always very cozy in Groningen. There always is something to do!

Always sunny in Groningen.

One of the most amazing things about Groningen is the fact that when the first sun of the spring is visible, the terraces and the parks are immediately packed. The sunglasses are pulled out of the closet, and the first optimists are seen wearing shorts or a shirt. But aside from the fact that Groningen is always alive, which leads to an amazing night life, Groningen has a lot to offer.

Museums.

For instance, the Groningen Museum is one of the most famous museums of The Netherlands. It is filled with the latest and most popular modern art. The building of the museum itself is a piece of art.

Another fine museum is the museum of cartoons. There are just a few cartoon museums in the world, and the one in Groningen is definitely worth visiting.

Cannobio, Italy.

Cannobio is a city that lies on the coast of the Lago Maggiore. Lago Maggiore is a beautiful lake, partly in Switzerland and partly in Italy. If you want to see were some of the wealthiest people of Switzerland and Italy enjoy their vacation, you should buy a chair and put it on a beach on the Lago Maggiore. You will be amazed by some of the boats, cars and houses you will see. But of course, you can enjoy your holiday in Cannobio in many different ways!

The Saturday market.

Every Saturday, a big market opens in Cannobio. The entire boulevard is filled with hundreds of stands, where you can buy clothes, souvenirs and food. You can stroll through the market for hours. There are so many nice things you can buy there!

Laying back on a terrace.

If you have had enough from the crowded market, you can enjoy a nice glass of wine. All the wine you drink around the Lago Maggiore, is wine from the area. Which means that the wine is cheap and very fresh. All of the terraces have amazing wines, and you can enjoy the view of the amazing lake on all of them.

Easy access to the rest of the lake.

Because Cannobio is on the coast of the lake, there are many opportunities to rent a boat or to go on a boat tour. There are so many other fantastic cities around the Lago Maggiore, all with amazing views and beaches, that you would want to visit them all. Fortunately, this is possible from Cannobio! There are many buses and boats that will take you wherever you want to go. Also, you are only a 10-minute drive away from Switzerland!

Leiden, The Netherlands.

Leiden is also known as ‘The Venice of The Netherlands’ due to it’s small canals and ambiance. Leiden is, just like Groningen, a student city. Some of the most powerful people of The Netherlands have gone to college in Leiden. But Leiden has a lot to offer for tourists as well. With a few amazing museums and churches, there is a lot to do in Leiden.

The Canals of Leiden.

The canals of Leiden have got some terraces alongside them. But the amazing thing about these terraces, they are on boats, directly on the canal! This gives an extra dimension to the consumption of a drink. If the sun is shining, these boat terraces are always fully packed. This means that atmosphere is always very nice.

Museums and Churches.

When you are done walking through the amazing streets of Leiden, you may want to pay a visit to some of the museums and churches of the city. Here are some options.

  • Academic Historic Museum.
  • Leiden American Pilgrim Museum.
  • Naturalis.
  • Pieter’s Church.
  • Hooglandse Church.

These museums and churches are very popular among tourists in Leiden. If you are in Leiden, you really should pay a visit to one of them.
